AMD’s 2nd Gen Ryzen Desktop CPUs & the biggest thing about these CPUs must be the new 12nm Process Technology as Intel is still using 14nm in their 8th Gen Coffeelake desktop CPUs. The 2nd Gen Ryzen Desktop series consist of four CPUs including two Ryzen 5 CPUs & two Ryzen 7 CPUs.
Here is a specification sheet for the same,
MODEL | CORES | THREADS | CLOCK SPEED (BOOST/BASE) (GHZ) | CACHE SIZE | TDP | PRICE | AVAILABILITY |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Ryzen 7 2700X | 8 | 16 | 4.3/3.7 | 20MB | 105W | $329 | Apr 19 |
Ryzen 7 2700 | 8 | 16 | 4.1/3.2 | 20MB | 65W | $299 | Apr 19 |
Ryzen 5 2600X | 6 | 12 | 4.2/3.6 | 19MB | 95W | $229 | Apr 19 |
Ryzen 5 2600 | 6 | 12 | 3.9/3.4 | 19MB | 65W | $199 | Apr 19 |
So, both the Ryzen 7 CPUs feature 8 Cores & 16 Threads and they also have 20MB cache (4MB L2+16MB L3) sizes. The main difference here is in the Clock Speeds, the TDP & of course the Price. The Ryzen 7 2700X can go upto 4.3 GHz on Boost & 3.7 GHz is the Base Clock speed while the regular 2700 has 4.1 GHz on Boost & 3.2 GHz on Base. The TDP is also different at 105W for the 2700X & 65W for the regular 2700. That’s what you give up in the regular Ryzen 7 2700 for that $30 price difference as it is priced at $299 while the Ryzen 7 2700X retails for around $329.
The Ryzen 5 CPUs are no exception as well. Both the CPUs feature 6 cores & 12 Threads and about 19MB (3MB L2+16MB L3) Cache. The Ryzen 5 2600X can go upto 4.2 GHz on Boost & 3.6 GHz is the Base Clock speed while the regular 2700 has 3.9 GHz on Boost & 3.4 GHz on Base. The TDP is also different at 105W for the 2600X & 65W for the regular 2600. Again, that’s what you give up in the regular Ryzen 5 2600 for that $30 price difference as it is priced at $299 while the Ryzen 5 2600X retails for around $229.
All these Ryzen CPUs are compatible with the new AMD X470 Chipset which feature an AM4 socket. OEMs like ASRock, ASUS, Gigabyte, and MSI are already making these new X470 Motherboards while the previous gen 300-series will also support the new CPUs after a BIOS update.
All the new 2nd Gen Ryzen CPUs & X470 Motherboards will be available worldwide starting 19th April.
