The Galaxy S9 Cannot Beat The iPhone X In Terms Of CPU Performance – Here Is Why !

So, last time when we were talking about the Galaxy S9, we were talking about it’s first debut on Geekbench. Well that model turns to be one of the engineering samples of the Galaxy S9+ (SM-965F) as we just got the results for the regular S9 (SM-960F). But, the main reason of making this article is, this time we got the near to appropriate benchmark scores.

As both S9 & S9+ use the exact same Exynos 9810 SOC, it’s no surprise that the Benchmarking Scores will be pretty similar in real life so, this is how the actual Geekbench scores look like for the Exynos 9810…

So, what does that even mean to the consumers ? Well, let’s start with the improvements over the previous generation of the Samsung Flagship which is the Galaxy S8. Here is a comparison of the Galaxy S9 Exynos 9810 variant with the Galaxy S8 Exynos 8895 variant based on the Geekbench 4 scorecards.

So, in general the Galaxy S9 is around 21% Faster in Single Core Performance & around 37% Faster in Multi Core Performance compared to the Galaxy S8. That’s quite impressive increase & we think that after Samsung has finished optimizing the Exynos 9810 completely these percentages may actually bump upto 25% in Single Core & 40% in Multi Core compared to the last gen Exynos 8895. So, definitely a significant performance increase over what Samsung has done in the past.

But, then we look at the opposite side of the story. The iPhone X is actually the device Samsung will compete with their S9 & S9+. So, where does the S9 Exynos 9810 variant stands compared to the iPhone X’s A11 Bionic Chip. Well, here’s a Geekbench 4 comparison for the same.

The Exynos 9810 on the Galaxy S9 is around 35-36% Slower in Single Core Performance & 22-23% Slower in Multi Core Performance compared to the A11 Bionic Chip on the iPhone X. These are pretty big differences in performance and that’s kinda similar near to a generation gap between the Exynos or even Snapdragon SOCs. Even if Samsung manages to optimize the SOC a lil bit more, still the increase in performance won’t make any huge difference.

Now, both the Snapdragon 845 & the Exynos 9810 is also expected to have some AI capabilities. They might be better or worse than the A11 Bionic Chip but, we have to test that out. But the conclusion is, Apple’s still kinda like a generation ahead from pure performance perspective even when they are also on the 10nm Process Technology right now. Android has much expanded feature list so, maybe Apple is pretty limited on that side so, it won’t be able to use all that power and also Benchmarks are not everything.

But Samsung & Qualcomm, you guys need to work a little bit harder to at least gain similarity in CPU Performance when the next generation of these SOCs are out.
