Remember that crazy iPhone 10 Benchmarking scores from Geekbench last time ? Well, that was an iPhone 8 Plus benchmark that Geekbench has not really mistaken as the iPhone 10 (iPhone X). Thanks to a tweet from MKBHD where he ran Geekbench on his iPhone 8 (iPhone 8 Plus as he mentioned in his Youtube Video), it turns out to be that Geekbench is actually recognizing Model ID his iPhone 8 Plus as the iPhone 10,2 .
You can clearly see in this tweet that the Tweet mentions iPhone 8 while the image mentions iPhone 10, 2 as the Model of the iPhone. For a deeper investigation we visited Geekbench ourselves and found the test results there & that’s exactly the one MKBHD has tweeted about. Have a look,
So, it’s clear now, Geekbench is recognizing the iPhone 8 Plus as the iPhone 10, 2. But, why is that happening & who is responsible for that ? We have an answer to that. Geekbench actually knows the difference between iPhone 8, 8 Plus & X as they’ve already listed all of these devices in their iOS Banchmarking Score chart.
So, what is this whole iPhone 10 thing going on ? Basically, being the 10th Generation of iPhones, all of the three iPhones have their Model Names as iPhone 10. But, there is an differentiator to them. The iPhone 8 carries the Model ID as iPhone 10, 1 while, iPhone 8 Plus carries the Model ID as iPhone 10, 2 & the iPhone X carries the Model ID as iPhone 10, 3 (Confirmed by Geekbench). So, this is how a iPhone X benchmark looks like,
But, there is more to it. According to the result we got last time, the Model ID was 10, 5 . Now, the benchmark suggests that it’s the same A11 Bionic Chip but, what model it is, seeing the RAM it’s an iPhone 8 Plus. For example here is another result for the same that was caught just a while ago,
Now, if you have any clue why the iPhone 8 Plus is giving the result as 10, 5 , definitely let us know in the comments section below. Also, there is another model called the iPhone 10, 4 and it’s the regular iPhone 8 if that matters to you. We hope that this article was helpful to you if you were also confused with the benchmarking results coming our way & maybe consider sharing this article with someone for who it maybe useful to.
[Update: iPhone X real benchmarking score added & iPhone 10, 5 model recognized as iPhone 8 Plus & iPhone 10, 4 model recognized as iPhone 8 as well]
