In 2014, with the advent of Apple’s smart watch, the wearable technology space has been a buzz with all major brands jumping into the fray with their products. However, the Moto 360 emerged as the clear winner with a circular dial and all metal finish, beating Korean electronics giant LG’s G watch R (launched in October 2014), that targeted the fitness enthusiasts, but failed to impress customers seeking a more premium look.
All that is set to change with LG unveiling its latest offering LG URBANE at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015. Just like the name suggests, the URBANE unlike its predecessor sports a luxurious all metal finish, a round dial and a thinner bezel to appeal to both men and women. Blending the best in high end wearable tech with modern style, it is all set to steal the thunder from its competition. .
The URBANE clearly intends to sport a more formal look as compared to the sporty LG G Watch R. Keeping this philosophy in mind, the designs in LG went for a stainless steel body available in both Silver and Gold finishes. The watch has a thin bezel and slender lines as well as a natural leather strap stitched with precision to give a classy premium feel, with the customer having the option to swap to any standard 22mm strap to suit their style or the occasion.
Powered by Google’s Android Wear operating system, the LG URBANE features a 1.3 inch Plastic OLED display much like the G Watch R albeit with a thinner profile, and has an intuitive touch based interface. The watch can be controlled by any smart device running Android 4.3 or higher and runs on a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, with 4GB of memory, a 410 mAh battery, and an accelerometer, compass, barometer and photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor (that measures heart rate of the wearer).
