Qualcomm Will Finally Move To Adreno 600 Series GPUs For The Upcoming 2018 Snapdragon SOCs !

We have been seeing Adreno 500 series GPUs from the days of the Snapdragon 820. The whole range of 500 series GPUs had noticeable improvements over the previous 400 series GPUs. So, overall the 500 series turned out to be really good GPUs. But, Qualcomm felt an upgrade was needed for their GPUs & that why they’ll be coming with a new series of GPUs that’ll be included in every new 2018 Snapdragon SOC.

We’re talking about the Adreno 600 series GPUs & the Snapdragon 845 is going to be the first SOC to use this new generation of GPUs. All the GPUs of this generation are expected to use the 10nm Process Technology. At least until the Snapdragon 855 appears with a 7 or 8 Nanometer Process Technology & if it also uses a 600 series GPU. And I know many of you guessed it already, the Snapdragon 845 has around 0% chances to use an 8nm Process Technology. It’ll use 10nm (2nd Gen) instead.

Now, Wikipedia has listed only 5 GPUs from the Adreno 600 series on their website as of now. These are the Adreno 608, 615, 630, 640 & 680. Now, we can’t actually tell which one of these GPUs Qualcomm will be using in their Snapdragon 845. Well, maybe the 680 but, it can also be the 640 or 630. We’ll have to see that after Qualcomm makes the 845 official on December 5.

But, overall the 600 series is expected to be a major upgrade in the performance segment. If I recall, the Adreno 540 was capable of pushing around 567 Gigaflops of Processing Power. We’re really curios to see how much improvements, it’s successor can bring on board. Also, noticeable improvements in OpenGL & Vulkan are also expected.
