The Snapdragon 855 Is Probably Not Going To Be 5G Supported

We were all assuming that the The Snapdragon 855 Is Probably Not Going To Be 5G Supported. will be the successor of the current gen 845. Yes, we’re talking about the 2019 flagship Snapdragon 855 here. So if you remember, a few months ago we reported that the Snapdragon 855 will be build on the 7nm Process Technology.

Now, Qualcomm has finally unveiled their first chip that is built on the 7nm Process Technology & that chip is being called as the Snapdragon X24 LTE Modem. The X24 is not a 5G modem & it is a 4G LTE modem instead. But, it has industry first 2 Gigabits Per Second download speeds which makes it the bridge for moving to 5G from 4G LTE. But, how does that relate to the Snapdragon 855 not having 5G support ?

Well, because 5G will debut with the Snapdragon X50 Modem & as Qualcomm announced the X24 modem in between, it’s kinda clear that the 855 will be using the the X24 & not the X50 cause the Snapdragon 845 is using the X20 which is the direct predecessor of the X24.

Also, as both the Snapdragon 855 & X24 are going to be build upon the 7nm Process Technology, the doubts on this pair, clears even more.

So that means, the X50 will definitely debut with the Successor to the Snapdragon 855 (can be called the Snapdragon 860 or 865 or whatever Qualcomm wants to call it). However, that successor is also coming in 2019 as Qualcomm literally have confirmed the appearance of 5G in 2019. So, may not with the 855 but, at least we’re getting 5G next year.
