Smartphone manufacturers have been using the Mediatek Helio P series SOCs in some Mid & Lower-mid end devices from quite a while now. As an upgrade to the existing Helio P20 & P25, Mediatek unveiled the Helio P23 & P30 with Octacore Configurations that are based on 16 nanometer Process Technology.

Mediatek Helio P23 & P30 Are Here

Both of the SOCs are focused on the Mid Range segment & are expected to be used in many Budget devices in the near future. In case you’re curious about the major specifications of these SOCs, they’re listed below,

Helio P23

  1. CPU Architecture: Octacore (4x Cortex A53 @ 2.3 GHz + 4x Cortex A53 @ 1.65 GHz)
  2. GPU: 770 MHz Mali-G71 MP2
  3. Memory (RAM) Type: 933MHz LPDDR3 (Upto 4GB) or 1600 MHz LPDDR4X (Upto 6GB)
  4. Storage Type Supported: eMMC 5.1
  5. Max Display Resolution Supported: 2160 x 1080
  6. Camera Sensor Support:  Dual 13MP + 13 MP or Single 24MP
  7. Max Video Recording Capabilities: 1080P @ 30 FPS
  8. LTE Category: Cat-6, Cat-7 DL / Cat-13 UL
  9. Wi-Fi: a/b/g/n

Helio P30

  1. CPU Architecture: Octacore (4x Cortex A53 @ 2.3 GHz + 4x Cortex A53 @ 1.65 GHz)
  2. GPU: 950 MHz Mali-G71 MP2
  3. Memory (RAM) Type: 1600 MHz LPDDR4X (Upto 6GB)
  4. Storage Type Supported: eMMC 5.1 & UFS 2.1
  5. Max Display Resolution Supported: 2160 x 1080
  6. Camera Sensor Support:  Dual 16MP + 16 MP or Single 25MP
  7. Max Video Recording Capabilities: 4K @ 30 FPS
  8. LTE Category: Cat-7 DL / Cat-13 UL
  9. Wi-Fi: a/b/g/n/ac

So, clearly pretty Mid-end specifications here. For budget devices, these look decent but, we do have the Snapdragon SOCs that are based on 14 nanometer Process Technology right. For example, the Snapdragon 625, 626 & 630. So, can these Mediatek SOCs outperform them in both Performance & Efficiency ? Well, maybe not quite. But, let’s wait a bit to actually test out how well they perform in real life. So, what do you think about these new Helio P series SOCs ?
