You probably have subscribed to a number of YouTube videos. You’re hardly alone. A lot of people have discovered that whatever they’re into, there are sure to be YouTube channels that specialize in that particular subject. 

It’s easy to think that you just need to create your own videos and buy Youtube video engagements from to get the organic traffic and subscribers going.

There’s a lot of subscribers out there because you have to understand that YouTube is consistently in the top five of internet traffic. That’s a lot of traffic. We’re talking about billions of hours in viewership. We’re talking about tons of clicks and a lot of people just stay on YouTube.

There’s also an interesting trend when it comes to YouTube usage. A lot of people are actually using YouTube primarily as a search engine. 

As you probably already know, reading content requires a tremendous amount of attention. You have to really be very discriminating. In many cases, you have to use your brain to process a lot of information. 

Well, what if you could just passively watch a video and get a tremendous amount of information very quickly? And most importantly, this information isn’t intimidating because it’s presented in a very easy to process and easy to understand format. That’s right. Pictures are worth a thousand words. How many words do you think a video is worth? 

For these reasons, a lot of people now flock to YouTube. This sounds good so far, right? But when you look at a typical YouTube channel, you would think that there would be a lot more people subscribing. You would think that there’ll be a lot more people engaging with the content. 

Well, what happens is that there are lots of channels that actually get a lot of views, but they don’t really have much of a subscriber base. There are also channels that have a lot of subscribers, but in terms of comments and other forms of engagement, their engagement levels only live up to the amount of subscribers they have. Sadly, there is a third category and these are channels that have almost no following and almost no engagement. 

Regardless of which situation we’re looking at, why is this happening? What accounts for such disconnects? Why does there seem to be a divide between the engagement level’s popularity and overall channel success? It turns out after some digging around that the answer is weird. In fact, the answer will shock you. 

Struggling Channels Fail to Call People to Action

The bottom line is struggling channels just focus on just getting one video out after another. They just forget to call people to action. They don’t even offer the most basic encouragement for people to subscribe to their channel. They don’t ask people to smash the like button or to click the bell icon so people get notified. Instead, struggling channels just slap together a video, crank it out and then go on to the next video. It’s not unusual to find YouTube channels with a tremendous amount of videos, but really very low indicators of success.  

Struggling Channels Assume That Their Viewers Already Know Their Content’s Value

Another common mistake is that a struggling channel would assume that just because you’re watching this video at this particular channel that you already know what everything is about. In other words, since you’re here, you know what to watch. This is too much of an assumption to make, so you don’t call that person watching, you don’t ask that person to subscribe. So, what does that person do? They enjoy your content, get value out of it and they’re gone. 

Failed Channels Use Call Slash-In That Don’t Excite the Viewers

You have to understand it. When you call people to action you should do it in the body of the video itself and in the description. These two things must be present. You can’t just go on and on in your video and present what you want to present and fail to call people to action.

If you do that they will watch the video and leave your channel. They couldn’t care less that in the description it says, “Hey, subscribe or like my channel.” They wouldn’t do that. They came for what they’re looking for and they’re gone. 

Successful Channels Use an Emotional Hook That Connects Real Benefits with Channel Support

Successful channels focus on establishing a connection between the viewer and the channel’s brand. You basically say, “Hey, did you enjoy this content? Would you like to see more? Please smash the like button. Click ‘subscribe’ and click on the bell icon. That way you’ll get an email the next time I release a video.” 

It’s very easy, it’s very plain, but it’s also very effective because you draw a connection between their positive emotional state. They enjoyed your video. They got something out of it.
